How Kitty works

Independent

There are no ads, no affiliate links and no sponsored content. We don't take payment from banks, energy firms or any other provider. When we mention a product, it's because it's relevant, not because anyone paid.

Primary sources first

We start from the original announcement, legislation, regulator decision or provider terms, and link to it. News reports are never our only source.

Every figure checked

Before an explainer is published, every figure is checked against the source it came from. Worked examples are labelled as illustrative.

How sure we are

When we write about something that hasn't happened yet, we label it:

Confirmed:
In law or a published decision.
Announced:
Officially announced but not final.
Forecast:
Projected by a named source. It may not happen.

Written with AI assistance

Explainers are drafted with the help of AI and then run through automated checks: figures against sources, dates, who it applies to, and plain-English readability. Cover illustrations are generated with AI and labelled as such.

Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the end of the explainer saying what changed. We don't quietly edit mistakes away.

Guidance, not advice

Kitty is guidance, not regulated financial advice. We explain what's happening and the options people commonly consider. For a recommendation about your own circumstances, speak to a regulated adviser.
